What is installer lockout:
Installer lockout is a feature used by installers to restrict access to a alarm system programming. Without the correct installer code the programming menus cannot be accessed. Most alarms have a defaulting feature but this feature will not function if the installer lockout has been enabled. This means that there is no backdoor into the system programming thus the alarm board will have to be replaced.

What information do i need for the security equipment when i purchase a new house
What information do I need for the security equipment when i purchase a new house.
I have come across a lot of client that has purchase a new house with state of the art security equipment. Most of the times they only want minor changes mad to the systems to complement their way of living. The unfortunate reality ninety percent of the time are that the equipment cannot be accessed because no installer codes have been provided. almost all the time the client run for their security file with the codes that was given for them.
Firstly any security product has different levels of codes namely
1. User codes
2. Master Codes
3. Installer Codes
4. Maintenance Codes
The most important codes are the master and installer codes. Without a installer code the system cannot be programmed. A master code will still enable you to add new users and customize certain alarm or cctv features but will not enable any additional zones or stay feature that you might need.
The end user might not know the differences in the codes or how they get used and therefore it is important to have a security specialist check the equipment for you. A lot of Insurance companies these days requests Certificates for these product before approving your insurance. It might be wise spending the money on the callout and have peace of mind.

How do i identify the make and model of my alarm
How do I identify my system? The first place to start is to look inside the door of the system enclosure. Most of the time, there will be a diagram with the proper system name on the inside of the door).
Some alarms are re-branded (ADT, for example, has used several different hardware sources over the years such as DSC, IDS and Texecom) to identify the actual alarm hardware, there is usually a model number on the main PC board, usually on the main IC chip, or the edge of the PC board.
Similar model numbers do not always program alike; there is a huge difference between a DSC PC1550 and a DSC PC1555. Both these model can use the same keypad but the programming slots are different.

Change or edit Paradox Magellan User Codes
User Codes
User codes are personal identification numbers for each user that allow you to enter certain programming
modes, arm or disarm your system, as well as activate or deactivate PGMs. The system supports the following:
• 1 System Master Code
• 2 Master Codes
• 29 User Codes
System Master Code (Default: 123456)
The System Master Code can arm or disarm any partition, and can create, modify or delete any user code.
Master Codes
Master Code 1 is permanently assigned to Partition 1 and can be used to create, modify or delete user codes
that are assigned to Partition 1. Master Code 2 is permanently assigned to Partition 2 (exception: when
partitioning is disabled, Master Code 2 will be assigned to Partition 1) and can be used to create, modify or
delete user codes that are assigned to the same partition.
NOTE: Master Codes cannot modify or delete user codes assigned to both partitions. Only the System MasterCode can modify or delete user codes assigned to both partitions.
Duress Code
If you are forced to arm or disarm your system, entering the user code with the duress option enabled will arm or disarm the system and immediately transmit a silent alert (Duress Code) to the monitoring station. The duress code must be enabled by your installer.
User Code Length
Your system can be programmed to use either 4- or 6-digit user codes, where each digit can be any value from 0 to 9. Six-digit codes are considered more difficult to “crack” and therefore, more secure. Avoid programming simple or obvious user codes, such as your telephone number, address, or codes such as 1234.
